This research examined the standardized commercial pomegranate extract (PE) alongside its phenolic compounds punicalagin (PA), ellagic acid (EA), and urolithin A (UA) to determine their protective potential against oxidative damage and cell toxicity induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in human keratinocyte HaCaT cells. Research revealed that pomegranate phenolics produce beneficial effects on human keratinocytes which validates their application as natural cosmeceutical products for maintaining healthy skin.
Mechanism of Action of Pomegranate Extract
· PE, PA, and EA decreased H2O2-induced ROS levels in HaCaT cells by 1.03-, 1.37-, and 2.67-times respectively.
