Two different forms of orthosilicic acid formulas, maltodextrin stabilized orthosilicic acid (M-OSA) and monomethylsilanetriol (MMST), were developed and the oral intake of these two forms of Si (M-OSA and MMST) and their effects on nails, skin, and hair were investigated. Clinical and subjective patient evaluation results showed that both M-OSA and MMST improved facial wrinkles and UV spots and reduced hair aluminum content.
Experimental design and results
· A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted on healthy subjects to evaluate the effects of 5 mg of elemental Si, either M-OSA or MMST (group 1 and 2, n = 17 each), or placebo (group 3, n = 17) taken twice a day for 150 days. Clinical assessments, patient evaluations, multispectral face imaging, and hair mineral analysis were carried out.
· The use of M-OSA and MMST led to significant improvements in facial wrinkles and UV spots (p < 0.05). Changes in skin texture and eyelash length were also noted at the conclusion of the study. Additionally, the levels of aluminum in the hair decreased as a result of the treatments, and participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with both M-OSA and MMST. The study suggests that continuous use of M-OSA and MMST can enhance skin parameters and act as a detoxifying agent for aluminum.
