Avocado oil, derived from the cold pressing of the Persea Americana fruit, is a valuable ingredient in cosmetic formulations due to its exceptional healing and moisturizing properties. This oil is renowned for its rich content of nutrients, including easily digestible fats such as glycerides of essential fatty acids, vitamins A, E, and D, and other biologically active compounds. It possesses a complex texture that enhances skin elasticity and soothes dry, chapped skin, making it suitable for all skin types. Avocado oil's ability to improve blood circulation and oxygenate skin tissues enables it to stimulate the production of elastin and collagen, thus promoting skin firmness and elasticity. Additionally, the oil aids in restoring the skin's protective lipid barrier, imparting a healthy glow while reducing irritations, wrinkles, and dryness. Its application is beneficial for the delicate skin around the eyes, providing hydration and minimizing fine lines. With its calming and reparative qualities, avocado oil is a favored choice for addressing the needs of dry, aging, and sun-damaged skin in numerous skincare products.

An oil-in-water anti-wrinkle cream containing avocado oil and saffron extract was developed and evaluated for its safety and efficacy.
Preparation and performance of the topical cream
· The lipid phase included stearic acid, avocado oil, cetyl alcohol, lanolin, vaseline, and propyl paraben, while the aqueous phase consisted of glycerin, sorbitol 70, saffron extract, triethanolamine, methyl paraben, and deionized water. Initially, the aqueous phase was heated to 80°C, and then methyl paraben was added. Once solubilized, the other ingredients were added at 70°C. The lipid phase was also heated to 70°C. The O/W cream was created by combining the lipid phase with the aqueous phase while continuously stirring at 1000 rpm for 15 minutes. The cream was then homogenized for about a minute and cooled to room temperature. Finally, honey fragrance was added and the formulation was stored at room temperature.
· Throughout storage, the formulation maintained its physicochemical properties. During clinical evaluation, 30% and 45% of participants showed at least a one-grade improvement in GIAS after 6 and 12 weeks, respectively. Notably, there was a significant reduction in the area and volume of nasolabial folds. Additionally, both net elasticity (R5) and gross elasticity (R2) showed a significant increase after 12 weeks of treatment. No allergic reactions were reported, and skin hydration remained stable throughout the treatment period.

An oil-in-water avocado oil nanoemulsion (NE) system was prepared using mixed surfactants to induce nanocolloid formation. Nanoemulsions (NE) were obtained by pre-homogenizing and sonicating herb-loaded avocado oil, hydrogenated lecithin (HL), and d-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS) in the aqueous phase. NE consisted of different surfactant ratios, surfactant to oil ratios, and oil content to investigate the physicochemical properties and storage stability. The results showed that mixing TPGS and HL could significantly enhance the NE stability and induce micelle formation. The stable NE can be used as a lipophilic composite carrier for nanoemulsion systems for food, cosmetics, and drug delivery.
Preparation procedure of avocado oil Nano-emulsions
· The process of creating avocado oil nano-emulsions began with pre-heating avocado oil, surfactants, and the aqueous phase to 80 °C in 4 minutes. This mixture was then homogenized at 15,000 rpm for 2 minutes using a D-500 homogenizer. Subsequently, the dispersion sample underwent sonication at 60 W at 45 °C for 20 minutes with an ultra-sonicator.
· The nano-emulsions were made with avocado oil at concentrations of 1% and 2%, with a total emulsifier composition of varying surfactant ratios (SR) of HL/TPGS at 0/100, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25, and 100/0, and surfactant to oil ratios (SOR) of 30%, 50%, and 60% in the aqueous phase. Following ultrasonication, a 4 mL sample was collected and each formulation was repeated three times (n=3) minimum.
What are the primary benefits of using avocado oil on the skin?
Avocado oil is rich in essential vitamins such as A, D, and E, as well as lecithin and potassium, all of which contribute to the healthy appearance of the skin. Vitamin E, in particular, acts as a powerful antioxidant that helps to neutralize free radicals, thus protecting the skin from factors that can lead to premature aging. Moreover, avocado oil's ability to penetrate deeply into the skin allows it to deliver a wealth of nutrients, helping to nourish and soothe the skin effectively.
Can avocado oil be used to improve hair health?
Yes, avocado oil is beneficial for hair health when applied to the scalp. It helps to soothe and nourish the hair, providing an easy and quick at-home treatment for achieving healthy and beautiful locks. Its moisturizing properties make it an effective treatment for a dry, itchy scalp, promoting overall hair and scalp health.
How does avocado oil benefit the scalp?
Avocado oil is particularly effective at soothing a dry, itchy scalp. When applied, it can deliver moisture and essential nutrients directly to the scalp, helping to alleviate dryness and irritation. This can lead to improved scalp health and a more comfortable and nourished feeling.
What makes avocado oil an effective carrier of active ingredients?
One of avocado oil's standout properties is its excellent penetrative ability. It can easily reach the deeper layers of the skin, more so than many other widely used oils. This quality makes avocado oil an outstanding carrier of active ingredients, allowing it to deliver its rich cocktail of nutrients efficiently to where they are needed most in the skin.
